The Great Sandpoint Flat Water Regatta, Saturday, July 11, 2015
An annual paddling event on Sand Creek, The Great Sandpoint Flat Water Regatta raises a lot of fun while raising funds for a scholarship program for local high school graduates. This fun, frolicking time for kayakers, canoers, paddle boarders and a creative class (anything that floats, pretty much) is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Sandpoint. Join in the fun the morning of July 11, 2015, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.! The race launches near Sandpoint City Beach in the Lakeside parking lot and is held on Sand Creek starting at Bridge Street and proceeding north to the Cedar Street Bridge and back for a set number of laps. Cost is $30 per paddler and includes a shirt and craft entry number. Classes will be:
- 10 a.m.: Canoes with single or tandem paddlers, 6 laps for a 2-mile total.
- 11 a.m.: Kayaks with single or tandem paddlers, 6 laps for a 2 mile total.
- Noon: Paddle boards, 2 laps for a total of .75 mile.

The Rotary Club of Sandpoint is expecting 100 entries at the 2015 regatta. Sign-in and packet pick-up will be at the Lakeside parking lot near City Beach, starting at 8 a.m. Note that all participants will be required to be wearing USCG approved PFD. All watercraft launched in Idaho waters must carry an invasive species sticker that may be purchased at many outdoor stores or government offices or by Internet. Sponsorships may be purchased for this event, and all sponsors' names will be printed on the shirts given to all participants as well as event volunteers.
